Welcome to the wonderful world of Social Studies and Economics! This is my third year at RCS as a full-time teacher, but have substituted here for 3 1/2 years. I grew up in Randolph and also attended RCS. I began my undergraduate education at Jamestown Community College and received my Associate's degree, then transferred to SUNY Fredonia where I received my Bachelor's degree in Social Studies Education and also in History. My Master's degree is in Special Education from Edinboro University. Happy learning everyone! : ) Check out my blog on this link!-- http://lauren21783.edublogs.org/ Social Studies Course Overview: The focus of eighth grade Social Studies is United States History after the Civil War to present day, with some focus on New York and our role in this history. There is a heavy emphasis on reading and writing skills. Document analysis, geographic and economic skills are emphasized as well as all the other traditional social studies skills. All work is in preparation for the New York State 8th grade Social Studies assessment to be taken in June and for real life situations. Economics Course Overview: The focus of Economics is to learn and understand the key economic factors in the world we live in. In this course, students will be able to take these factors and apply them to real life situations. Classroom Expectations: - Students should come to class prepared and ready to learn, cooperate, and practice social studies skills. Being unprepared includes a lack of homework and a lack of studying. It also includes forgetting books, pens, pencils, paper, and other materials.
- Students must be polite and respectful of other students, as well to the instructor. Impolite behavior also shows lack of preparation.
- Students must be on time to class.
- Students are to complete and hand in all homework.
- No food, drink, or cell phones are allowed in class.
