Global Studies I Ms. Swan Welcome This year we will be covering the time period dating back to pre-history up until the European Renaissance. This is a 2-year course culminating in a regents exam next year in 10th grade.
OBJECTIVES: 1. To give students a conceptual knowledge of history. 2. To enable students to organize factual material independently. 3. To guide students in studying history and drawing conclusions. 4. To practice skills enabling students to communicate their ideas clearly to others. 5. To give students the knowledge to respect and accept those whose culture and traditions that differ from their own. TEXT: World History: Patterns of Interaction. McDougall Littell STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Be in your seat and ready to start with book, notebook and pen, before the bell rings. 2. On the day an assignments is due, you must enter with it completed. I will not allow you to go to your locker to get your homework. If you do not have your homework done on the day it is due, you can turn it in on the following day or it becomes a zero. 3. I expect you to be on time and prepared for class each day. If another teacher detains you, always bring a pass. 4. If you are absent the day of a test, but were present for all work prior to the test, but were present for all work prior to the test, the test will be given the day you return to class. 5. When absent it is your responsibility to ask what you missed immediately when you return to school. 6. AS PER SCHOOL POLICY--- NO CELL PHONES IN CLASS. THEY WILL BE CONFISCATED IMMEDIATELY AND HELD IN THE OFFICE FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE DAY. GRADES: Your grades will be based on homework, tests, quizzes, participation, cooperative activities, and other projects. Your cooperation and respect for others in class is always expected. Your best behavior is required when a substitute teacher is in this class. VERY stiff penalties will be issued for offenders. Please feel free to ask me for help at any time. Homework assignments can be found on the homework link and or the my calendar link. Assignments are due the following day they are assigned. I will accept the assignment only one day after its original due date and 10 points will automatically be deducted for being late. I will not accept any assignments after this point. Throughout the year I will be adding powerpoints and helpful websites as well. You can access them through the My Resources and My Links icons on this page. My best advice to you is to come prepared to learn everyday and do the work assigned and you will have a successful year. HAVE A SUPER YEAR!!
